Bollywood films are very diverse culturally. That’s why the directors like to play with the backdrop of the films. They often choose cities in which they can reflect the reality of their films. While some of them use the cities only geographically, there are some who bring out the actual colors of the cities in their film.
This makes the film look even more original and the audience is able to connect properly. This has now become the trend of the cities. Now directors prefer to shoot at the actual locations.
Let’s see which films were able to capture the actual essence of the cities they were set in.
1. Masaan
Masaan is set in Benaras. This film has everything that indicates the typical Benaras. From the Ganga ghats to narrow streets to the unique blended culture this film has shown it all. Artistically set this film has won millions of hearts.
2. Wake Up Sid
Wake Up Sid is the film that was shot in the city of dreams, Mumbai. The film managed to capture the reality of the city. It gives the authentic vibes of the city.
3. Yuva
When it comes to bringing out the real Kolkata in Bollywood films, then we need Mani Ratnam. Yuva is that sort of film which has it all from Durga Puja to women in red and white sarees.
4. Band Baaja Baaraat
Band Baaja Baaraat was shot in the capital city Delhi. And what better of showing Delhi than weddings. And the superb Punjabi tone that both Ranveer and Anushka had made it all the more believable.
5. Bobby Jasoos
Hyderabad is hard to capture with so many unique things there. But Bobby Jasoos actually managed to capture some of it. From Charminar to Biryani to the unique Hindi dialect the film was pretty convincing. This shows that Bollywood needs to explore Hyderabad more.
6. Haider
Kashmir is a very beautiful place with all the snow, cold and beautiful frozen lakes. Haider managed to show it all. This film was a brilliant work all and all.
7. Finding Fanny
There are so many films that were shot in the city of beaches, Goa. But none of them were convincing enough but Finding Fanny did a great job in capturing the real Goa and show it all. The film never showed even a single beach and yet it managed to convey that it’s Goa.
8. Kai Po Che
Kai Po Che was set in Ahmedabad and surely did capture the real essence of the city. They beautifully portrayed the life of three friends who made a few mistakes in their lives while also showing the real Ahmedabad.
9. Mausam
Mausam was set in rural Punjab and has managed to show the real Punjab instead of just showing the ‘sarson ke khet’ in which two people just do romance. This film showed the real rural Punjab, the typical Punjabis and managed to show the truest form of Punjab.
10. Gulaal
For the audience, Rajasthan is about deserts, women in colorful lehengas, swords, camels, horses, and Rajputs. But the real life of Rajputs living in the small towns of Rajasthan was clearly portrayed in the film Gulaal. This film is all about dirty politics, revenge, deaths, and killings.
