15 Bollywood Films Which Had Different Titles Before The Release

Every Friday we have a new Bollywood film on our nearby theaters. We go and watch the film and forget about it after some time as we have a new film on our list.

But if you think about it for a minute you will realize that we like a film’s because of its amazing storyline, superb actors or music. But there is always more to it than just music, actors, and script.

Not many people know that the films do have a last minute title change sometimes. Every film starts with a list of hundreds of names and by the end, the director decides the appropriate name for the film. Sometimes the names are changed as it doesn’t go with the story and sometimes it is changed so that the title can interest the audience.

Let’s check out what are those movies whose titles were changed just before their release.

‘Love Aaj Kal’ was earlier named as Elastic but thank god that Imtiaz Ali thought that of changing the name. It would have been a weird name.

The film ‘Katti Batti’ was earlier called as ‘Saali Kuttiya’. Thankfully it got changed to ‘Katti Batti’ otherwise, some people might have taken an offense on it.

The sensual romantic movie ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela… Ramleela’ was earlier named as ‘Ramleela’. Though people still call it just ‘Ramleela’, nobody bothers taking the full name of the film.

5. Hamari Adhuri Kahani

‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ was named as ‘Tum Hi Ho’. The title did justify the sad romantic storyline of the film. Maybe the title ‘Tum Hi Ho’ wouldn’t have worked out for the film.

6. Veer Zaara

‘Veer Zaara’ was earlier named as ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’ but the epic love story at the end got its title changed. The title did give birth to the new lovebirds Veer Zaara just like Romeo-Juliet or Heer-Ranjha.

7. Jab Tak Hai Jaan

I think Yash Chopra had a special soft corner for the film ‘Silsila’ or more precisely for the song ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’ because just like ‘Veer Zaara’ Yash Chopra also named ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ as ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’. But later on, he named it to ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’. This was apparently the last film that the iconic director Yash Chopra directed himself.

8. R… Rajkumar

The last word of the film Dobara was replaced with the number 2. That’s the only difference in the title. Such a genius, note the sarcasm.

‘Total Siyappa’ was earlier named as ‘Aman Ki Asha’ because Aman and Asha were the names of the protagonists in the film. But the directors must have found the title a bit cliched hence leading to the change of name into ‘Total Siyappa’.

‘Bullet Raja’ was awfully named as ‘Jai Ram Ji Ki’ which would have given it a Bhojpuri feel. Thank god that the name was finally changed.

‘Madras Cafe’ was named as ‘Jaffna’ but later on it was changed. John Abraham told about the reason behind the title change in an interview. He said that “It was a conscious call as we thought that ‘Madras Cafe’ as a title is much more youth-oriented and suits the film more.”
