1. Fairmont Banff Springs Hotels ,Banff, Canada
The Banff Springs Hotel is home to a number of ghost stories, all of which the hotel officially denies. At least one of the Banff Springs supposed ghostly guests is said to haunt the missing room 873 on the eighth floor. According to hotel lore, a man, while staying with his wife and young daughter in room 873, murdered his family before committing suicide. As the story goes, the spirit of the young girl- and, in some versions, the spirit of her mother never left the room.
2. The Stanley, Colorado, USA
Haunted events have been recorded at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, since as far back as 1911, when Ms. Elizabeth Wilson, a housekeeper, was electrocuted during a lightning storm. Though she wasn’t killed, the room where it happened, Room 217, has become a hotbed of paranormal activity. Over the years, every single room in the hotel has experienced something strange, from clothes being mysteriously unpacked, to items moving on their own, and lights turning themselves on and off.
3. Brij Raj Bhavan – Kota
The 178-year-old Brij Raj Bhavan Heritage Hotel was once the palace of last royal family of Rajasthan. In the 1980s, it was then transformed into a hotel. The palace is considered to have Major Burton’s ghost. Indian sepoys killed him, along with his two sons in 1857 in the central hall when he was living there as a British resident. It is believed that the ghost doesn’t harm anyone. It just slaps those guards who sleep away on duty.
4. Chelsea Hotel, New York City
There have been a wide variety of claims attached to the Chelsea Hotel from cold and hot spots, gushes of wind in rooms with all windows and doors closed, personal items being moved, the sounds of doors, drawers and windows opening when none have been touched, the sounds of loud footsteps outside of guests rooms and shadow figures. Some have said they have seen the apparition of a woman who is believed to be Nancy Spungen, there have also been claims of a male apparition who is believed to be the spirit of poet Dylan Thomas.
5. Russell Hotel, Sydney, Australia
The Russell Hotel has several ghosts but the one that is most talked about is the ghost of an old seaman who is seen and heard in Room 8. This former sailor dressed in clothing from The Rocks colonial period is seen standing very still and staring at the guests that become aware of his presence. Many guests reported feeling cold spots in the room. Others guests have been startled awake to see him standing and staring down at them. Some have seen this old seaman strolling through the hotel’s corridors it is said he then just vanishes. Hotel employees report hearing Room 8’s floorboards creak when this room is unoccupied.
6. Tulloch Castle Hotel, Dingwall, Scotland
Tulloch Castle dates back to the 1200s and has a long history of ghostly activity. The most famous of them is the Green Lady who has been seen by dozens of people and even has the castle’s bar named after her. She is believed to be the ghost of Elizabeth Davidson, whose family once owned the castle where her portrait hangs in the Great Hall.
7. Omni Shoreham, Washington D.C.
Built in 1930, the Omni Shoreham Hotel has echoing ceilings, grand chandeliers, and an allegedly haunted suite. The Ghost Suite, a two bedroom apartment-style suite with a full kitchen, is reportedly haunted. The spirits of the original owner, his daughter, and the housekeeper supposedly linger here. Both the housekeeper, Juliette, and the owner’s daughter, Helen, died in the suite. Once the family was gone, reports of unexplained noises, lights being turned on, and the feeling of someone running by, were made. Travelers can book the suite if they’re looking for the chance of a paranormal encounter.
