Amidst the huge row over an advertisement showing an interfaith baby shower, a report on Wednesday had claimed that the store of jewellery brand Tanishq was attacked by a mob in Gandhidham town of Gujarat’s Kutch district on Monday night. However, the piece of news is now being said to be false.
As indicated by Kutch (East) Superintendent of Police Mayur Patil, two individuals had visited Tanishq store in Gandhidham on October 12 and looked for a composed statement of regret from the proprietor in Gujarati. “The shop owner had fulfilled the demand but he was getting threat calls from Kutch. The news about the store being attacked are false,” clarified Patil.
Rahul Manuja, the administrator of Tanishq store in Gandhidham, additionally excused reports of an attack. “The store has not been attacked. However, I received some threat calls. The police have supported us,” said Manuja.
Eminently, Tanishq is as of now confronting a reaction by a part of social media users for the notice, which shows a Muslim family organising a baby shower for their Hindu daughter-in-law.
Today, the West Bengal Youth Congress had tweeted that the Tanishq store was attacked in Gujarat’s Gandhidham and the head supervisor had to compose a statement of apology over the ad.
“Apologies to people of Kutch district for hurting the sentiment of Hindus by broadcasting secular advertisement (sic),” the manager reportedly wrote in the apology letter, reported NDTV.
Notably, the advert has been removed from the jewellery brand’s social media channels. The company said the “idea behind the Ekatvam campaign is to celebrate the coming together of people from different walks of life”.
In a statement on Tuesday, Tanishq added: “We are deeply saddened with the inadvertent stirring of emotions and withdraw this film keeping in mind the hurt sentiments and well being of our employees, partners, and store staff.”
On Monday just as Tuesday, #BoycottTanishq moved on Twitter, with one user saying the promotion was intended to show the “love jihad collection”. In the interim, Congress pioneer Shashi Tharoor took to Twitter on Tuesday to adulate the “beautiful ad”.
