The Rajya Sabha on Sunday passed two farm bills by voice vote as the House saw confused scenes after some slogan yelling restriction individuals lead by the Trinamool Congress got on to the Chairperson’s platform requesting a discussion.
The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce Bill, 2020, and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, was passed by the upper house. The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020, part of the more extensive farm progression plan, couldn’t be taken up and the House was adjourned for the afternoon.
Members of the opposition, including those from the TMC, Congress and Left, made ruckus after dept. chairman Harivansh didn’t consider about their interest for a division of votes on a resolution to send the two bills to a select board of trustees. In the midst of the ruckus, the House was adjourned.
Members from the Trinamool, including Derek O’Brien, and other opposition individuals had before climbed the chairman’s platform after their demand for voting on the motion to send the farm bills to select board was not thought of.
Union minister of agriculture and farmer welfare Narendra Singh Tomar moved these two farm bills in the Rajya Sabha. The bills The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce Bill, 2020 and The Farmers Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020. Both of them were passed by the Lower House earlier in the week.
